Call for actors to submit headshot + resume to Automatic Arts (automaticartsco.com) for PURE MEDEA, an adaptation of Medea by Euripides conceived and directed by Josh McIlvain. PURE MEDEA takes place during a rehearsal of Medea by a fictitious theater company and involves actors playing both the actors in the rehearsal and characters in Medea. We are looking for actors who can be comfortable with the Medea language, but do not need to be classically trained, nor experienced in "classical" theater. A range of experience, including comedy, is welcome.
As all roles involve both playing the character in the original Medea and the actor playing that role—so the dialogue is a mix of Greek drama and the naturalistic exchange between the actors.
Exact dates to be determined but 7-10 performances over 2 weekends will be between May 1–18.
Rehearsals will begin 5 weeks prior to opening, with a few early workshop/rehearsals in the coming months. We make accommodations as necessary—however, this show must be your priority during the main rehearsal/show time.
Auditions are Feb 10th, we may set up an alternative date as well if needed. Seeking . . .
Jason/Zeke, male, 20s to mid 30s.
Tutor/Aegeus/Randy: Male, late 30s to early 50s, also plays messenger.
Nurse/Danielle: female, 30s, also plays messenger.
These are loose guidelines. We are interested in adjusting the character to the actor.
Please send submissions (headshot & resume) to automaticartsco [at] gmail.com. You will be contacted to set up an audition. Please note the play contains some explicit language. All actors receive a $200 stipend. Non-Equity.
Thank you!
