Description:
Silk Road Rising is seeking Middle Eastern, especially Iranian/Persian, actors and understudies for their upcoming production of My Dear Hussein by Nahal Navidar, directed by Azar Kazemi.
Synopsis:
A child, a toy dog, and a ruthless dictator walk into a war zone and fanciful imagination breaks free. This surrealistic tale of a four-year-old Iranian girl unfolds amidst the carnage of the Iran-Iraq War. The lines between playful fantasy and brutal warfare are gradually blurred as ugly realities become harder to mask.
Please note that all characters are to be played by Middle Eastern actors.
PARVANEH. 4, A curious child, lover of music and butterflies. (seeking understudy only)
HUSSEIN. Parvaneh's life-sized toy dog, her protector, confidant and best friend.
JAVAD. 8, The youngest child in his family, Parvaneh's best neighbor friend.
MAMAN/NEWS REPORTER. Maman: Parvaneh's mother, a beautiful and warm off-stage voice, role includes some singing. News Reporter: An agent of the outside world.
BABA/SADDAM HUSSEIN. Baba: Parvaneh's father, a calming off-stage presence. Saddam Hussein: circa 1980's Iraqi dictator and Parvaneh's secret friend. The presenter of gifts.
Pay: AEA: $259 a week, Non-AEA: $150 a week, Understudy: $75 a week
