Description:
New American Folk Theatre is seeking submissions for a Music Director/Band Leader for their upcoming production of MY LIFE IS A COUNTRY SONG written by Anthony Whitaker and Directed by Sarah Gise. The play runs on off nights November 3 - 21, on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Chief O'Neill's Pub (3471 N Elston Ave) in the upstairs bar.
Rehearsals begin in August with music rehearsals based on musical director and actor availability. We would like to find someone to act as Musical Director, as well as to help create a country band utilizing the actor/musicians in the cast and additional musicians.
MY LIFE IS A COUNTRY SONG is a life-affirming musical about the importance of our chosen communities, with a score written in the style of classic 70'/80's country music. It is the story of a woman, Donna, and her recovery from domestic abuse and her re-entry into life, set in South Carolina in 1980. It was originally workshopped at Underscore Theatre's Chicago Musical Theatre Festival and has a cast of six actors who tell the story through the medium of a country concert. Three of the characters are already cast with NAFT Ensemble members.
