Mariana | Female | Hispanic | 24-29 | Born in Peru (country is adjustable), she moved to LA when she was 23 to study a Fashion Designer after graduating of Business Management from University back home. Her F1 visa is about to expire in a year and she´s crazy looking for someone to get marry. After meeting Diego (Latino, gamer designer) in a bar, they both started going to double dates to find “American love” so they can stay in the US. Through the series they fall in love with each other, instead of an American. She always friendzone him, she thinks they are best buddies. Mariana is working in a Janie and Jack, a baby fashion clothes store, because one day she will like to own her brand of Baby Clothing. She always dreamt about having 6 kids, reason why she also wants to find someone to fall in love and get marry. Being a mother was always one of her dreams and now she thinks because she’s close to turn 30, she’s becoming late for that |
Astrid | Female | Hispanic | 21-27 | Astrid grew up in Montebello, East LA and was raised by her single mother who is a professor of Chicano Studies at USC. Astrid is a “lipstick lesbian”. She struggles with constant feelings of displacement in terms of her identity as Mexican-American, educated, and gay. Fluent in both English and Spanish, at times she feels too Latin to be seen as American and too white washed to be accepted by her extended family in Mexico. A recent business grad of USC, Astrid has just launched an online clothing boutique with her best friend Sebastian, a sharp tongued, stylish gay man that she has known since middle school. The clothing boutique, Traicionara, is the blended brain child of both friends reflecting Chic urban street wear with a hint of glam and a gender neutral line of lounge wear. Astrid is always dressed to impress, with her nails done and eyebrows on fleek. Astrid sleeps with multiple women and occasionally men with no intention of commitment. She keeps her occasional escapades with men secret to prevent polluting her identity any further. Despite being successful, beautiful, and surrounded by loving people, Astrid feels restless and bored in her life. She joins Zumba with prodding from Sebastian because she is an utter failure at dancing and he deems that as anti-Latina of her. Intense, mild tempered, and a strong sense of sarcasm. |
Carla | Female | Hispanic | 21-27 | Carla's Afro-Venezuelan. Carla’s parents immigrated to the United States from Venezuela to escape the political conflict. She became Jenna’s college roommate and studied theatre arts for her undergraduate degree. Throughout college, they became close friends. She’s overly dramatic so she feels like she’s a great actress but she’s not. Her dream is to play a role in a Mexican novella. Because of her many failed auditions, she is currently living with Jenna. To pay the bills, she works as a bartender at the most popular salsa club in the city. She has almost been fired on several occasions because she drinks too much on the job, but her charm and quirky persona lets her get away with a lot of things. She’s very outspoken with her beliefs, particularly against Maduro and the situation in Venezuela. Unlike Jenna, she loves dancing, socializing and going out to parties. She admires Jenna for her ambitions, but doesn’t want her to miss out on life. She invites Jenna out multiple times, but Jenna always refuses until she meet the guy of her dreams. |
Karina | Female | Hispanic | 21-24 | Karina is a student at LMU studying astrophysics. She comes from an outgoing, and sometimes obnoxious, Latino family in Los Angeles. Although she grew up in a rambunctious household, Karina doesn't seem to fit in and is often casted out as the black sheep. She is a quiet wallflower and never shows too much skin. On top of that, her Spanish isn't even that great. She possesses absolutely none of the Latin stereotypes that are often manifested in her sister, Rose. However, Rose wants the best for her and drags her out of the house for a Zumba class. Karina begins to do some healing and finds that she can be smart and sexy without falling into a stereotype. |
