Description:
Exit 63 Theatre is casting for the Chicago premiere of Steve Yockey's REYKJAVIK, a queer-horror anthology play, directed by Connor Baty, choreographed by Derek van Barham and intimacy design by Sarah Scanlon.
James is in Reykjavik for the Northern Lights, but they're not here. Instead he ventures into the 24-hour dark of the Icelandic winter and finds himself entangled with dangerous strangers, suspicious lovers, malevolent birds and the mysterious Huldufolk. This play is a glimpse into a supernatural and often violent world where everyone is still hoping to find love and joy beneath the glow of the Aurora Borealis.
CASTING BREAKDOWN
JAMES, young, pretty and carefree, but his laissez-faire attitude comes from having lost a lot in life; also HANK, a zealous, possibly immortal sex worker; also EBON, an optimistic and very romantic raven
GRIGOR, murderous, patient, quiet except when passionately invested in "torch song" karaoke, possibly an invention; also LEÓ, a very professional hotel employee; also AARON, unable to express himself
NAOMI, James' sister, a lot of regret, a lot of unease; also LIL, a hotel employee, not into her current gig; also VALERIE, gun-shy about love, always on the move
MARTIN, solicitous and very focused, he baits the hook, in love with his "good friend" Grigor, possibly an invention; also ROSS, a quality planner and decision maker, also ROBERT, a lonely customer too willing to believe
PETER, a stoner, open-minded and that's a good thing, the kind of guy who just lets things happen; also MIKE, Ross's boyfriend, a cocky tourist; also DAVEY, deeply frustrated with his relationship
