Description:
Rose Valley Theatre Group is holding auditions for the English language world premiere of Sunday Evening by Zachary Karabashliev (2009 Winner, Best New Bulgarian Play), directed by Zlatomir Moldovanski, produced by Magura Bulgarian Cultural Center.
Synopsis:
Rose and Nick are an immigrant couple trapped between the demons of their past and betrayal of the present. Their turmoil is witnessed by their neighbor and best friend Stella-an actress with a vibrant past but without any recent success. The main reminder of her glorious early days is their victim-her daughter Jenny, who must resort to manipulation in order to receive love, understanding, and affection that are long overdue. Sunday Evening intertwines and juxtaposes the illusion of the "American Dream" with the reality of everyday existence.
Sunday Evening was first produced in Bulgaria in 2009 at Theatre Sofia, with director Zdravko Mitkov.
Seeking actors for:
Nick: This role has been cast.
Rose: 30s, Eastern European immigrant, living in a wealthy suburb of Los Angeles. Nick's wife. Artist turned business professional. By anyone's account, she has achieved the American Dream. However, her personal life and marriage are deteriorating. She is disillusioned with her own existence and bored with its monotony. What she once dreamed of is now proving to be dull and often unbearable. No accent required for the audition
Stella: 40s-50s, Nick's and Rose's neighbor, former successful Broadway and film actress who gave up on her career to better care for her troubled family. She is now presented with a new opportunity that would require her to once again turn her back on her loved ones. The severed relationship with her daughter Jenny is the main source of her grief and turmoil.
Jenny: 20s, Stella's daughter. Her troubled childhood and early teenage years have turned her into a manipulator. She has learned to use her mother's guilt to her advantage. Jenny yearns for the loving family life she never had, but she puts on a rough exterior and does her best to conceal her vulnerability.
