Oakton Community College is holding auditions for Trouble in Mind; A Staged Reading by Alice Childress, Directed by Dan Wirth
Trouble in Mind by pioneering African American playwright Alice Childress, is the first play by a black woman to win an Obie Award (1956) for best original off-Broadway production. The drama explores what happens when black actors performing in a play about lynching and Southern racism must deal with the condescending attitude of their white male director. The play's female lead, Wiletta Mayer, stands up to him, revealing his racist attitudes, but faces severe consequences as a result.
Open Call Auditions. Seeking:
Two African American females, 30 - 40s
One African American male, 60 - 80s
One African American male, 20 - 30s
One white female, 20 - 30s
Three white males, 20 - 50s
One white male, 70 - 80s
Auditions will be held at Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln, Skokie, Il., 60077; Rooms P103 - 104
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals are in the evening and some weekend afternoons. Performances are Saturday, October 19 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, October 20 at 2:00 pm.
Material To Prepare:
Please prepare a 1- 2 minute monologue and be prepared to read from the script.
