Cole responds by saying that he is in a rough patch. His writing career is struggling and he feels that he has lost the passion he once had for the craft. When James realizes this, he decides that he is going to help his friend rediscover his passion, for he knows that it is still there somewhere. He drives him to one of his favorite hangout spots at the beach, where they used to have bonfires and burn textbooks after school got out in college. Then he brings up the campfire stories that they used to tell. James says that Cole always had the best campfire stories out of anyone. When Cole denies it, they head to a new location, a lookout point near LAX airport. He tells him to remember the first time he ever landed in Los Angeles for the first time. He told him to remember the feeling he had when he finally realized he was following his dreams. Cole remembers but then tells him how it ended up ruining his relationship with his parents. James then takes him to one more spot. It’s a lookout point of all of Los Angeles. James tells him to remember what happened here to what Cole responds that he first knew he was going to pursue writing at that spot. Cole then tells James he appreciates James’ help but says he needs to figure it out on his own. When James blows up at him, Cole then tells him he’s been pushing him away in case he ever decided to commit suicide. James freaks out and finally gives him something he’s been hiding.
