Description:

Blank Theatre Company is seeking actors to submit for their production of NINE a musical adaptation written by Maury Yeston, Arthur Kopit and Mario Fratti based on the Federico Fellini film 8 1/2. The production will be directed by Elyse Dolan with music direction by Blank Theatre's co-artistic director Danny Kapinos and choreography by Britta Lynn Schlicht.

Auditions by appointment will be held Saturday, October 26th from 11:00 am- 6:00 pm and Monday, October 28th from 6:00-10:00pm at Stage 773. The space is located at 1225 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL 60657.

Callbacks will be held by appointment on Saturday, November 2nd from 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, November 3rd from 11:00am- 7:00pm at Stage 773.

There is an $80 stipend for this production. This will be Blank's first Jeff-Eligible production. As per the Chicago theatre standards we are disclosing that actors are expected to help with strike.

SEEKING:

NINE will be comprised of a talented ensemble of performers of varying sizes, gender-expressions and identities, racial and ethnic-identities, and abilities. Blank Theatre Company welcomes actors of all identities and experiences to audition for the role they feel most confident in and drawn to.

Guido Contini, 30s - 40s. Celebrated Italian Film Director, married to Luisa, lover to Carla and many in the past. He is torn apart mentally by his career, home and life.

Luisa Contini, 30s - 40s. Guido's wife. Formerly an actress. She is fed up with Guido's philandering and inattention and is considering a divorce. A strong, resilient woman, accustomed to pretending everything is fine.

Carla Albanese, 20s - 30s. Guido's mistress. A blast from the past who continuously shows up at inopportune moments in Guido's life. A big, fun personality. She wants to be the one Guido chooses.

Claudia Nardi, 20s - 30s. Guido's protege. A movie star. She has a romantic history with Guido, but has moved on with her life and wants him to move on too. *The role of Claudia has been cast. We are only seeking an understudy for this role*

Liliane La Fleur, 40s - 60s. Guido's French producer and former star of the famous Folies Bergere. She is eccentric and bigger than life. She wants his next film to be a musical and has already invested money in it.

Sarraghina, 30s - 40s. A prostitute Guido visits as a child to learn about love and women.

Stephanie Necrophorus, 20s - 40s. A film critic who has been particularly hard on Guido's films in the past.

Guido's Mother, 50s+. She is dead, but appears to Guido and offers him guidance.

Little Guido, 9 - 11. Guido as a child, as well as the inner voice for the adult Guido.

Other supporting roles, 20s - 50s. The other various women in Guido's life and around the spa.

This production will utilize both internal and external understudies for various roles.

Actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and abilities encouraged to submit.

Time Commitment:
Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, February 9th 2020. Rehearsals are held Sunday-Thursday nights. Tech week is the week of March 23rd. There are 2 previews on Saturday and Sunday March 28th and 29th. Opening night is Tuesday, March 31st. The show then runs Thursdays-Sundays with one Monday night performance on April 20th. The production will close on April 26th. This production will be performed at Stage 773 in the Box Theatre.
