Description:
Theatre Y is mounting a new production of Juliet by Andras Visky, adapted and directed by Kevin V. Smith. Juliet is a riveting work, a monologue spoken by the title character as a Job-like cry from the heart at the end of her endurance in a labor camp with her seven young children. The play is based on the experience of the author's family under the Communist regime in Romania during the early 1960s.
This production will be weaving in a chorus of mothers and their babies to dramatize the play's poignant commentary on motherhood and the existence of eternal love in an oppressive society.
We are looking for new mothers who are willing to perform onstage with their babies. The part will involve singing and movement. Having a vocal or movement background is a plus but not required. We strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities to apply. Female-identifying actors who are persons of color and/or non-native English speakers are especially encouraged.
Throughout the rehearsal process we will be working closely with you and your child to make sure that we are maintaining a safe working environment for you both. We are dedicated to making sure that everyone's physical and emotional needs are met. A stipend will be provided as well.
