Description:
About the show:
In 17th century Paris, the rich live in a different world from the poor, and women of all classes live on the whims of men. But poison is the secret lubrication on the gears of Paris society: poison-makers are the favorite artisans of the rich and their laboratories the only places where women from all levels of society meet. Madame Bosse could have been a great doctor, but instead must make poison to feed her family. Monsieur Reynie, Paris's chief of police, claims to only want justice, but their battle of will and wit will expose the truth: that justice is only for the rich and powerful.
Poison will run at the Berger Park Coach House.
BOSSE - female, late 20's to early 40's, director is primarily considering actors of color
MARIE BOSSE is grounded, focused, and driven to do what it takes to survive in a world where she is caught at the intersection of being a woman in a patriarchal society and someone born into the common class living in poverty. At a time when the Catholic Church dictated public behavior while the entire population of France still believed in magic, she operates behind the curtain and has no use for mysticism, spirituality, or religion. She is ferocious when she needs to be, and affectionate with those that are able to sneak past her defenses.
