Description:
Producer Wendy Kaplan and MadKap Productions announces auditions for Veronica's Room, a psychological thriller, by Ira Levin (author of Deathtrap and Rosemary's Baby). The play is directed by Stephen M. Genovese.
Auditions will be held at Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Avenue (easy El access) on Sunday November 17, 2019 and Monday, November 18 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Callbacks are Wednesday, November 20, from 7:00-10:00 p.m. All roles are available.
The Play: It is 1973. College students Susan and Larry are invited to a New England Mansion by its caretakers ("The Woman" and "The Man"). Susan is encouraged to impersonate Veronica, a long dead daughter of the family, in an effort to provide comfort to Veronica's only surviving sister. As Susan dons the vintage clothes of Veronica, the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur.
Characters:
"The Woman" - needs to be believable as 35 y.o. AND 60 y.o. (a dual role written into the script).
Various dialects required. This character needs to have both charming host qualities, and a stronger, darker side.
"The Man" - needs to be believable as 35 y.o. AND 60 y.o. (a dual role written into the script).
Various dialects required. This character is the loyal relative, willing to do whatever it takes to make peace in the family.
"The Girl" (Susan, 20s -college student) A woman of her time, the girl is free-wheeling, liberated and upbeat. She takes on the role of Veronica which spirals her into a world of terror.
"The Young Man" (Larry, early to late 20s) Not at all who he at first seems to be, the Young Man is initially guarded and conflicted and eventually takes on the "roles" of two other people.
Material To Prepare:
Actors are asked to prepare a two-minute monologue showing dramatic range.
Callbacks will include readings from the script.
