Project Title | 2019-2020 Shattered Globe Theatre Protege Program |
Description:
Now in its 10th year, the Shattered Globe Theatre Protégé Program is a free, ensemble-based theater training program that culminates in an original devised production. This year, the program will be led by teaching artists Victor Maraña and SGT Ensemble Member Drew Schad, with playwright Dolores Díaz.
Who the program is for:
Shattered Globe is committed to making this training program accessible to everyone. We are actively looking to cast a diverse ensemble of theater-makers from different backgrounds. Generally, performers are interested in this program, but if you are interested in collaborating and devising an original piece of theater in a different capacity, please apply and we’ll see how we can best use your talent. We’re interested in working with team players who want to deepen their collaborative skills and become part of a tightknit group. All are welcome, and artists of color and LGBTQ artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
Dates of program:
The program will begin in late November or early December, with regular meetings culminating in performances of an original devised piece in March or April. We will likely be meeting on Sunday and Thursday evenings through January, then switching to Sunday and Monday evenings. Specific schedule will be determined when this class of Protégés is selected.
What to prepare:
Audition: Please prepare either 1. a monologue or 2. a physical movement piece that includes an object. Please be sure that your monologue or movement piece is no longer than two minutes. We want to get a sense of who you are and how you work. We may ask you to play around with the monologue or movement piece, so please be prepared to explore the piece and try new things.
Letter of Intent: Please also include a letter with your application indicating why you’re interested in the program, why you’d be a good fit as a member of the Protégé Ensemble, and what your personal goals for growth and expectations are during the program.
The first round of auditions will be held the evenings of Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13. Callbacks are scheduled for the evening of Monday, November 18. Please send any conflicts you have after 5pm on these days when submitting.
