Description:
In the underbelly of Los Angeles, societal tensions erupt when a laundromat manager is suspected of ripping down the shack of a mentally conflicted homeless man that occupies himself on the side of the laundromat. With it being a scorchingly hot night and crime running rampant, no one can predict the outcome of the looming altercation. This short film is a visceral critique of how the United States treats the impoverished cities that live on every corner and every block. This film is an attempt to paint a vivid picture of the increase of mental illness, the harmful bystander effect, the blind eye of the police, violence in altercations, identity within the black community, and the war between good and evil. Also important to note that this film is an experimental project. The team behind it are not afraid to take risk and will do anything to let the art come to life.
Breakdown:

---|---|---|---|---|
Jamal Kendricks | Male | African American | 30-40 | Jamal is a calm, restless man who takes pride in every aspect of his life. Even though he takes much pride in his life, he is at constant war with himself. He feels defeated that he never was able to carry out his dreams and became complacent living in Los Angeles and just goes through the daily strokes. He also feels like he doesn’t have the time to contribute to the lives of people that don’t immediately affect him. He doesn’t feel the initiative to help out in his community, contribute to social progression, or have a political stance. He is a hollow shell of himself and isn’t his personality. Regarding his demeanor, Jamal likes to keep himself clean to keep up his image. He isn’t an excessively clean person, but vanity is important to him. Vanity consumes his wellbeing so much that it becomes a personality trait to him. |
Milo Smith | Male | African American | 23-33 | As he is young and doesn’t see himself growing older, Milo is an eccentric and energetic homeless man that resides in the underbelly of Los Angeles. He is a skinny man that is on the border of being abnormally underweight. He can’t afford to have clean clothes and also doesn’t have access to showers but he does run into gas stations to steal moist wipes. Regarding his personality and attitude, Milo is extremely militant and doesn’t subscribe to common political practices and beliefs. His delusion of grandeur leads him to believe that he is the chosen one to be the bridge between the poverty-stricken citizens of Los Angeles and true enlightenment and freedom from world powers. |
