Description:
Looking for a young African American actress to play the adolescent Barbara Jordan. The play is a dramatic portrait of Jordan, centering on her pivotal role on the House Judiciary Committee during the Nixon impeachment hearings, but not limited to that episode in her life. At one point there is an extended scene between her at twelve (or so) and her grandfather that is not a typical "kid's role," but requires a good young actor. The audition will consist of 10-minute appointments during which actors will chat with the director and read from the script.
Seeking:
Female. African American. Able to play approximately 12 years old.
Pay: $15 per performance (there are 23 performances) plus a $100 rehearsal stipend, for a total compensation of $445
Time Commitment:
The performance run is February 28-April 11 (Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees, plus two Monday evening performances). Rehearsal begin November 3. The rehearsal schedule will be Sunday afternoons and Monday-Thursday evenings (with some variance once we get to tech rehearsals); this actor will not be called for more than half of the rehearsals and will be released no later than 9:00 on school nights.
Material To Prepare:
Sides will be provided prior to the audition. No memorization expected, but auditioners will be expected to have familiarized themselves somewhat with the material.
