Kerfuffle and The Connecting Routes Project are seeking a Production Designer for their co-production of "The Conductors", a new devised play for very young children. Themed around trains and travel, the play explores community and connection through audience interaction, multi-sensory props, and live music. This is a touring production, and will be shared in multiple Chicagoland organizations in November 2020, traveling by way of Metra.
The Production Designer will be responsible for the design and construction of a tourable environment for a performance for children under 5 years old, including set, simple lights, and projections. Prior experience or interest in shadow puppetry is preferred, but not required. Prior experience or interest in designing work for young audiences is preferred, but not required. Due to current circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we are particularly looking for creative thinkers, to brainstorm solutions outside the box to adapt our production to match future public health guidelines, still to be determined. Designers of all types are highly encouraged to apply and hiring decisions will be made on a basis that is inclusive of disability, race, age, color, national origin, and gender identity.
This is a paid position. The stipend for this project is $750. All transportation to performances venues will be provided, if needed.

Production Meetings: Summer 2020 on Zoom
Devising Workshops with children: Sept 29, Oct 6, 13, 20
First Rehearsal: October 4, 2020
Final Design Due: October 17, 2020
Tech: November 1, 2020
First Preview: November 5, 2020
Opening: Tuesday, November 10, 2020
Closing: November 22, 2020
*We are actively following all updates surrounding COVID-19 guidelines. If it is not possible to produce our project in November, we have plans in place for a rescheduled Winter/Spring 2021 date.
Rehearsals: Monday-Thursday from 6:00pm-10:00pm and Sundays from 10:00am-1:00pm at The Edge Theater
Performances: The show will run 45 minutes, with 1-3 daytime performances per day on November 11, 13-14, 15, 20-22, 2020, with one evening performance on November 17. Performance venues are located throughout Chicagoland.
