-Ada Byron Lovelace (18-36, female-identifying, White, English): Curious, funny, brilliant, aware of her brilliance, stories, aware of her story. Never met her famous father. Tries to be a "good girl" but just cannot help her curiosity and love of all things impossible. A mathematician; a poet at heart. Curious, wry, self-aware. Above all, bright, in every sense. A woman of our time stuck in hers. Singing role.
-Lady Anabella Byron (35-55, female-identifying, White, English): Ada's fierce tiger of a mother. Handles her out-of-control life by exerting control on her daughter. Harsh, strict, jealous? Yes. But realistic. She has had a hard life largely due to Ada's father. Projects his sins on her. (DOUBLES Mary Somerville)
-Charles Babbage (40-60, male-identifying, White, English): Ada's scientific partner and closest friend. A quietly burning furnace of ideas and ideals. More capable of dreaming than doing. Lauded genius of London. A holder of famous salons, an inventor, a mathematical scholar, a dreamer who just cannot seem to make his dreams into the metal they require to be real. Almost perfect for Ada. Almost. Singing role.
-Lord Lovelace (late 30s, male-identifying, White, English): Ada's proud and proper husband. A literal man, if not a particularly literate one. Content with a monochromatic life, he cannot even begin to perceive all the colors that Ada can see. He'd rather that he was more rich and more lordly but he'll manage with his lot. A proud man. A wanting man. A serious man. Is not madly in love with Ada but she'll do just fine. (DOUBLES Byron)
-Mary Somerville (40-60, female-identifying, White, Scottish): Ada's mentor and Charles' friend and colleague. Equal parts warm and sharp, supportive and practical. -Byron (late 30s, male-identifying, White, English): The spirit of Ada's late father, the famous (and infamous) poet. Charming and passionate; quick-witted and brash... and regretful. Darkly funny, unpredictable, emotional, brooding but self-aware. Singing role. (DOUBLES Lord Lovelace)
