Description:
Actor actress must be local to LA area, or willing to work as local. No reimbursements for travel accommodations. “Steel will” - short sci-fi (cyberpunk) boxing drama movie. Story set in not-so-far future - 10-30 years from now. Film tells about professional boxing champion - Robert Steel “Hammer” - who lost his arm and got replacement with robotic prosthetic. Story focusing on his struggles in the boxing ring under new conditions, relationships with his loved ones and Robert’s inner fight with himself. Project is low-budget, indie and non-union. "Steel will" intended for submissions and festivals run (primary in USA), ending with showing on online streaming services, VOD, cable channels etc. Also, it is based on feature script by same author and will serve as proof of concept - when opportunity will allow to shoot full-length version of this story, one of intentions - to try to carry over all team-members, involved in production of this short. For this project will be gathered mostly team of independent filmmakers, whose previous short movie received several awards and ended on VOD channels

Actor will need to wear prosthetic rubber arm during most parts of filming. CHARACTER DESCRIPTION ROBERT (ROB) STEEL "HAMMER" - mid-thirties (33), middleweight professional boxing champion, who never lost a fight till to date. Intimidating looking athlete in his prime, born for this kind of sport, with short haircut and prominent jawline, pretty muscular and with cold steel in his look. Recently lost his arm in accident, and got replacement with robotic prosthetic instead, which resembles human limb . Robert had hard upbringing, he became an orphan at an early age, at some point of his life was forced to live on the streets and later - at the orphanage. His passion for boxing saved him from going a life of crime. Harley, a boxing trainer, found Rob at one of amateur boxing matches and became his trainer and good friend for life. Because of his rough upbringing Robert sometimes comes off as arrogant and selfish, stubborn and has his mood swings, easily provoked; but, when it comes to boxing he is very hardworking and focused. His early life also attributes to his boxing style - he intends to win fight as soon, as possible, being aggressive in the ring, often tends to finish the fight with his famous "hammer" punch, which usually ends in his opponents knockout. In the fight he used to put his left hand as front one (orthodox stance). Although, being a successful boxer, he still prefers somewhat humble life. Being an introvert, it's hard for Robert to trust people and let them close, to communicate freely with others. Rob loves his family and he very devoted to his wife, Penelope, and his son. For Robert boxing is a way of life, way to express himself, he cannot imagine being anywhere else aside from the boxing ring. Given a choice between his family and boxing - Rob will be unable to make this decision. As Robert is never experienced failure in his life since early childhood, he doesn't really know how to deal with loss, he becomes helpless and completely breaks down, in such situations. As he getting older, he realizes, that he reaches the end of his career and wants to stay in the fight as long as he can. |

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION Penelope Steel - Robert's devoted wife, is in her late twenties. She is very dedicated to her family, coming to the outside world as the perfect wife. At their wedding, somebody jokingly referred to Penelope and Robert as "beauty and the beast". Together with him she creates contrast, looking gentle, calm and fragile. She has soft, deep voice. Ironically, it's the truth, as she balances his rough and tough personality, being calm and reasonable person. Deep inside she has a strong character and can put others needs in front of hers own. If need be she will sacrifice herself for loved ones. Being younger than Robert, and less experienced in life, she compensates for it with her instincts and feelings. As boxing is a major part of her husbands and her family life, she tolerates it. She wants her loved one to be safe and happy, but recently started to come up to some-what selfish wishes of need of more personal comfort and attention. |
