Description:
The Cabin is a strange tale about a writer at the end of his rope who is faced by the characters from his story with far too familiar faces. Whether he is facing magic or a mental breakdown of some sort is up to the audience to decide. The writer, Bryce Coachman, wanted to write a piece that could be equally odd, entertaining, and relatable. He believes that it is common for people to find themselves in situations where they feel stuck or powerless, so he hopes that this script conveys that feeling while adding a sense of hope to getting out of that funk.
Breakdown:
Role Name | Gender | Ethnicity | Age Range | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Teresa/Maxie | Female | Any | 25-35 | Teresa is Arthur's former co-worker who was cut from the project due to her disagreements with Abigail and the studio. Maxie is only seen at the end but she is thankful for being brought back. She is happy to see the change in Arthur. |
Arthur/Nero | Male | Any | 25-33 | Arthur is a screenwriter who is down on his luck and at the end of his rope. He is somewhat depressed, crumbling under the pressure of finishing his screenplay and meeting the demands put in front of him by Abigail and the studio. Seeing and interacting with his own characters does not help at first. He doesn’t feel he is in control and that has caused him to isolate himself from people. His passion for writing is dwindling under the micromanaging to the point where he mostly does what he is told with no questions asked. He is struggling to muster up the strength to do what he feels is right for his script and himself. Nero is the complete opposite of Arthur at the beginning of the story and is sick of him. The last straw was Maxie being killed in the script. Nero is intense, brazen, and straightforward. Nero thinks the worst of Arthur because of his choices in regard to the script, the writer’s room, and his personal life. He believes Arthur is a coward and won’t change but nonetheless wants to talk to him on behalf of Maxie. |
Abigail/Count Silver | Female | Any | 28-37 | Abigail works as a mediator between the studio and Arthur as well as a producer to look over the progress of the script. Though she means well, she has taken advantage of Arthur’s timid nature to put out a script to her and the studio’s liking. She is straightforward and confident. She is very experienced and takes pride in her work. She is very smart and is somewhat manipulative and meticulous and will not let anyone or anything get in her way to what she thinks is best for the project. Count Silver is absolutely coldhearted, meticulous, manipulative, and violent as she is a far more extreme and arrogant version of Abigail. She is not afraid to threaten Arthur to get what she wants. Though she doesn’t show it, she is fighting for Abigail to take the reins on the script in order to survive by the end of the story. So, she is trying to get Arthur to leave the cabin by any means before he rewrites her fate. |
Michael/Victor | Male | Any | 25-35 | Michael is a writer on the project as well as Arthur’s boyfriend. Micahel is absolutely sick of Abigail and the studio because of the crazy amount of pressure they are putting on Arthur. He is extremely worried about Arthur’s well being, especially after Arthur left to stay in the cabin and after reading his latest draft. Michael has faith in Arthur and only wishes the best for him and his work. Michael is very headstrong, cunning, and compassionate. Victor is very compassionate and cunning, like Michael, but he is far goofier, playing far more tricks than Michael ever would. He believes in Arthur and just wants Arthur to make decisions for himself. For the first half of the story, he is in pain but tries to talk and work past that for Arthur's sake. |
