Description:
Possibilities Theatre Company announces auditions for their upcoming production of The Dining Room by A.R. Gurney.
Possibilities Theatre Company seeks to harvest an adventurous, creative environment where people from all walks of life are welcome and safe to take risks, try new things, and build a community. Possibilities strives to work with new artists and encourage them to venture into new art forms that they may be unfamiliar with. Possibilities Theatre is committed to respecting their artists time, talent, and prosperity, and intends to always operate accordingly. Theatre for an evolving world.
"The play is set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes-some funny, some touching, some rueful-which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events; a father lectures his son on grammar and politics; a boy returns from boarding school to discover his mother's infidelity; a senile grandmother doesn't recognize her own sons at Christmas dinner; a daughter, her marriage a shambles, pleads futilely to return home, etc. Dovetailing swiftly and smoothly, the varied scenes coalesce, ultimately, into a theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humor and abundant humanity."
Our production will be focusing on the space around us, and the stories that our spaces have to tell... about us, and those before us. There will also be a cooking show that is featured live, pre-show, or pre-recorded on Youtube and sent out with tickets- there will be a menu for each night, and the audience can cook along with it for at-home dinner theatre!
The Dining Roo auditions will be held live over Zoom Monday, January 18th and Tuesday, January 19th from 7 - 10:30 PM. With callbacks scheduled (also live, over Zoom), Thursday, January 21st from 6:30 - 10:30 PM.
Roles are open to people of all genders, ethnicities, body types, and abilities!
Possibilities Theatre Company is committed to abiding by the Not in Our House and We See You W.A.T. standards.
Actors will be paid a percentage of all donations the play receives!
Time Commitment:
The Dining Room will rehearse entirely over Zoom, and be performed live, over Zoom on 3/19, 3/20, 3/26, and 3/27 at 7:30 PM, with a 6 PM call.
