James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, musical...and a rare modern classic.

Commission and Comps Policy: Big Noise Theatre's ticket policy offers performers two options: traditional comps or a commission on tickets sold. More details available at auditions.
COVID-19 Policy: All cast and staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and boosted, as recommended by the CDC guidelines, for auditions, rehearsals, and performances. Proof of vaccination and booster status (as applicable) must be provided at auditions before being seen. This information will be verified at auditions against a physical vaccination card, photocopy of vaccination card, digital record of vaccination, or a printed record from your vaccine provider. Performers must remain masked at all times until their audition, at which time they will be provided a clear face shield to wear. Staff will be fully masked at all times.
Safety at Rehearsals and Performances: Big Noise Theatre intends to have mask-free performances of this production. Due to the ever evolving nature of COVID-19, BNT and the production staff will follow the latest local and CDC guidelines for rehearsals and performances and will partner with cast and staff to ensure the safety and comfort of all involved. Presently, masks that cover the lower half of the face including the nose must be worn at all times during rehearsals.

Character Breakdown:
Narrator/Mysterious Man
Age 30 to 60 - An intellectual and pleasant story-teller who helps to orchestrate the show and illustrate the lessons of his tales. Occasionally appears as the Mysterious Man, a mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler. He is a good-natured protector and observer.
Vocal range: G2 to E4
Boy
Age 7 to 10 - Silent and observant yet part of the action. Non speaking.
Cinderella
Age 20 to 30 - A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters.
Vocal range: G3 to G5
Jack
Age 15 to 20 - The feckless Giant killer who is 'almost a man.' He is adventurous, naive, energetic, and bright-eyed.
Vocal range: B2 to G4
Jack's Mother
Age 40 to 60 - Browbeating and weary, Jack's protective mother who is independent, bold, and strong-willed.
Vocal range: Bb3 to Gb5
The Baker's Wife
Age 30 to 45 - Determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple, yet satisfying life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavors.
Vocal range: F3 to G5
Florinda
Age 25 to 35 - One of Cinderella's stepsisters who are black of heart. Together they follow in their mother's footsteps of abusing Cinderella.
Vocal range: C4 to Ab5
Little Red Ridinghood
Age 15 to 20 - A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-witted, fearless, yet youthful and naive.
Vocal range: Bb3 to F5
The Witch
Age 30 to 60 - Sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel who is straightforward and aggressive.
Vocal range: F3 to G5
Wolf/Cinderella's Prince
Age 30 to 40 - A hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading and captivating his prey. This description fairly describes both characters.
Vocal range: Bb2 to Gb4
Rapunzel
Age 30 to 40 - A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world.
Vocal range: B3 to A5
Rapunzel's Prince
Age 30 to 40 - Just as vain and gorgeous as his Prince brother, he is always chasing the newest, most exciting endeavor.
Vocal range: C#3 to E4
Ensemble
3 or more members of a "greek chorus" that will support the story through vocals and unique theatricality and movement who will also portray Milky White, Red's Grandmother, Cinderella's Mother, Cinderella's Father, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty.
Rehearsals will be held in Wilmette between March 6 and April 14 before moving to the performance space in Des Plaines on April 18. Performances are at Prairie Lakes Theater on Fridays and Saturdays April 29, 30, May 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30pm; Sundays May 1, 8, and 15 at 2pm.
