Walnut Street Theatre is currently seeking local non-union actors to understudy all roles in CINDERELLA during the holiday season. Glenn Casale is set to direct with Gerry McIntyre choreographing the production. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on November 1, 2022 with performances running from November 22 - December 31, 2022
SEEKING:
ELLA U/S –20s-female-identifying, any ethnicity. A traditional legit musical theatre soprano. Though no one notices her beneath her rags and quiet demeanor, she is opinionated, charismatic, optimistic, funny, and beautiful. She courageously challenges the prince, always sees the good in others, and we witness her blossom into a confident woman. Must be able to move well.
TOPHER U/S –late 20s/30 male-identifying, any ethnicity. A rich musical theatre baritone to a G. A misguided prince who longs to do something important in life. Charming, but not a stereotypical ladies man, and has an unforced comedic streak. Moral, genuine, and kindhearted, he is at a crossroads and must take control of his kingdom. Must be able to move well.
MADAME U/S – 40-60s female-identifying, any ethnicity, character woman. Ella’s selfish and dismissive stepmother; the epitome of vanity and fashion. A ravenous social climber. Comedic and traditional musical theatre voice.
SEBASTIAN U/S – 40-60s male-identifying, any ethnicity, character singer. The kingdom’s Lord Chancellor. Though he is Topher’s trusted advisor, he is devious and selfish. Dry and secretly dishonest, he keeps Topher isolated and in the dark about his kingdom. Must have good comic timing.
MARIE U/S – 40s+ female-identifying, any ethnicity, character woman. A friend to Ella and described as the town’s beggar woman, Marie is actually a fairy godmother in disguise; wise, warm, otherworldly and charming; Glorious and expressive traditional musical theatre soprano to a G.
GABRIELLE & CHARLOTTE U/S – 20s female-identifying, any ethnicity. Ella’s stepsisters and daughters of Madame; encouraged to value material wealth and social status. Snooty, loud, and brassy comedic musical theatre belts. Very comedic.
JEAN-MICHEL U/S – 20s male-identifying, any ethnicity. A feisty, passionate peasant determined to make a change for the starving class. Must have great comic timing and a strong traditional musical theatre tenor voice.
LORD PINKERTON U/S – 30-45 male-identifying, any ethnicity. Lord Chancellor’s right-hand man; announces/proclaims royal balls, banquets, and even the weather to the villagers. Must have great comic timing and an operatic tenor to an A.
ENSEMBLE U/S – All ages, gender-identifies, ethnicities, body types, and voice parts to make up a chorus of townspeople, knights, peasants, serfs, and ladies/gentleman of the court in this world. All must have strong legit voices and be able to dance traditional/classic waltzes.
COVID NOTE: Walnut Street Theatre is operating through Actors’ Equity Association as a “fully vaccinated company”, so as a condition of employment, we are only seeking actors that have been fully vaccinated at this time.
Artists who are unfamiliar with Non-Union Understudies from within the Walnut Street Theatre School’s education performance program, details are provided below.
UNDERSTUDIES:
- Are “On Call” for a specific role in the cast and must be in town for the duration of the run of CINDERELLA – November 1- December 31, 2022
- Learn/observe as much of the rehearsal process as you’d like on your own.
- Attend Final Dress Rehearsal and off-book by – November 20, 2022
- 6 required understudy rehearsals during the show’s run – 11/25, 11/29, 12/2, 12/6, 12/7- from 1-6PM
- Receive an expense stipend of $315 to cover any expenses in participating (parking for a day, etc). 9 weeks
- Additional Rate: $50 a show if you perform as an understudy.
- Scholarship for a free class at the Walnut Street Theatre School.
- EMC points if desired.
