Boho Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for our winter 2023 production of tick, tick...BOOM! by Jonathan Larson, directed by BoHo Artistic Associate, Bo Frazier!

We are aiming to assemble a cast solely from the community of amazing trans and gender non-conforming actors in Chicago. Director Bo Frazier's production will reimagine Jonathan Larson's story, traditionally told by cisgender actors, into a 90's grunge rock concert amplifying trans love and creativity.

We are actively seeking Transgender and Gender Non-conforming actors for each role. Sadly, we cannot legally change the pronouns of the characters. We understand this is slightly challenging but also note that pronouns do not equal gender identity.

We are happy to transpose the music into different keys to fit the right performer.

JONATHAN (he/him) A struggling composer on the brink of his 30th birthday; Strong narrator. A music geek with awkward tendencies; self reflective. Michael's roommate and Susan's boyfriend; ability to play basic piano is preferred but not required. Written vocal range: A2-A4

SUSAN (she/her) Jonathan's girlfriend; uninhibited and dynamic; nurturing, loving and supportive but growing increasingly frustrated with Jonathan's pre-occupation and lack of commitment. Same performer plays a number of additional character roles requiring terrific comic timing. A dancer or strong mover preferred. Written vocal range: Bb2-Gb4

All cast members must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to appear at an in-person callback and be cast in the show. "Fully vaccinated," as defined by the CDC, is more than 14 calendar days following receipt of a final dose of an FDA or World Health Organization authorized or approved vaccine.

Pay: $650 for principal, $500 for understudy
