Theo is now accepting submissions for our winter 2023 production of The Threepenny Opera. A biting satire of the post-war rise of capitalism, and featuring a legendary score by Kurt Weil, Threepenny tells the tale of Macheath, a debonair crime lord on the verge of turning his illegal empire into a legitimate business.

Theo is committed to casting our productions in a way that reflects our community and therefore encourages performers of all races, genders, ages (18+), abilities and identities to submit! For gender-fluid and non-binary performers, any genders listed in character descriptions are that of the character only, and you are encouraged to submit for any roles you are interested in! All roles are open to any ethnicities.

Street Singer: Any gender, any age (18+). Vocal range: tenor/high baritone. Addresses the audience directly throughout.

Macheath: He/him. 30-40. Vocal range: high baritone. Mac is the most notorious, most sought after criminal in London. He is stealthy and charming, the kind of guy who could get away with anything in a corrupt system.

Mr. JJ Peachum: He/him. 40+. Vocal range: bass/baritone. Peachum is a righteous man who clings closely to his beliefs and the bible. Controller of all the beggars in London and a protective father to Polly. Goes to great lengths to have Mac hanged.

Mrs. Peachum: She/her. 40+. Vocal range: contralto. Wife of Mr. Peachum and helps run the business.

Polly Peachum: She/her. Early 20's. Vocal range: soprano. Daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Peachum. Young and vivacious, she is rebellious and marries Mac after only knowing him for five days.

Tiger Brown: He/him. Late 30's- early 40's. Vocal range: baritone. Sheriff of London and long time friend of Mac. Directly benefits from Mac's crimes, but is deeply conflicted in where his allegiance lies.

Lucy Brown: Open to all genders. 20-30. Vocal range: mezzo. Daughter to Sheriff Brown. Deceiving and claims to also be married to Mac.

Jenny Diver: Open to all genders. 20-30. Vocal range: mezzo. A sex worker who was previously involved with Mac; tough.

Street Singers/Beggars/Thieves: Open to all genders, ethnicities, ages (18+) and vocal ranges.
