South Camden Theatre Company is now accepting non-union and two equity video audition submissions for their 2023 season. All non-union actors receive a $500.00 stipend at end of the run. Equity contract is Special Appearance- Level 1 agreement.

ROLES:
CASEY- White, male, 20’s, a small-town high school football star turned Elvis impersonator. He becomes Georgia McBride and must be able to sing and be comfortable performing in drag and heels. He loves his wife ferociously, and dreams big, if not always practically. Must be able to sing and lip sync. Guitar skills a plus; submitting a video also showing musical talents encouraged.
JO- Black, female, 20’s, Casey’s wife, loves Casey with her whole heart and is his grounding force. A realist, she is supportive of her husband’s dreams but also aware of their financial situation.
MISS TRACY MILLS- any ethnicity, male-identifying or non-binary drag performer, 40’s-50’s; Professional, confident, and very funny, with a heart of gold. When she is not in her drag persona, she is Bobby, Eddie’s cousin. If you have your own drag act, please submit videos/photos. Ability to lip-sync and work a room in high heels a must!
REXY/ JASON- any ethnicity, male-identifying or non-binary drag performer, 20’s-30’s, fiery, sharp-tongued, and emotional, she is the fellow drag performer with Miss Tracy.If you have your own drag act, please submit videos/photos. Ability to lip-sync and work a room in high heels a must!
EDDIE- any ethnicity, male, 45-65, club owner and Bobby’s (aka Miss Tracy) cousin. Rough around the edges, but with a huge heart. He starts of as a terrible emcee, but transforms into a showman.

GARTH WILLIAMS and OTHERS- White, male, 50ish or older, frisky, dry, funny, sardonic, also assumes the role of aged sickly Alabama State Representative BOBBY CRONE; sincere Montgomery newspaper reporter HERSCHEL WEBB; fiery segregationist columnist HENRY BRANCH; a folky RAIO ANNOUNCER; and two silent WHITE PASSERBY. This requires a charismatic chameleon actor with range and gravitas.
LILY WHITFIELD- White, female, 30’s, genteel Alabama accent. She has enjoyed the benefits of a racist system and has not questioned it.
JOSHUA MOORE- Black, male, 30’s, upwardly mobile, middle-class, suppressed Alabama accent. He left Alabama years ago and settled in the North. He is politically active, kind, aspirational, worldly, and a disciple of Dr. King.
SENATOR E.W. HIGGINS- White, male, 50ish, or more. Pronounced Alabama accent. He is an active racist, and a bully, Not as smart as he thinks he is, but influential.
EMILY WHEELOCK REED- White, female, 50ish or more, the State Librarian of Alabama, born in North Carolina and raised in Indiana. No southern accent. She is all-business, and does not suffer fools. An introvert of exceptional character.
THOMAS FRANKLIN- White, male, late 20’s, reference librarian, Emily’s “in the closet” assistant. Pronounced Alabama accent, genteel, efficient, slightly uncomfortable in his own skin.

SIOBHAN- any ethnicity, adult female mid 20’s- late 40’s, Christopher’s teacher and mentor. She strives to teach Christopher how society works and how to behave within its guidelines. She is professional, caring, calm, and sensitive to his situation. English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish accent.
ED- any ethnicity, male, late 30’s-50sh, Christopher’s father; estranged from his wife and struggling as a single parent, trying to raise his son as best he can. Gruff and brusque, he has difficulty conveying his emotions, but loves his son deeply. Working middle class English accent.
JUDY- any ethnicity, female, late 30’s-50ish- Christopher’s mother; estranged from her husband, is a working-class woman who has no support system to raise her son. Working middle class English accent.
