Description:
At The Lightbulb Factory, we look to grow and ensemble and continue to create community through the developmental process, with a continued focus on shorter forms of theatre and spaces in which we share those stories. As we continue to define The Factory, we look to create opportunities for artists to share their processes, illuminating each other with new discoveries and turning new lights on for our growing community.
About The Process
The Lightbulb Factory is excited to present our first project of 2023 with "The Process", which will be a playful look at the audition-to-casting process. This will have the audience dive into the glamorous or not so glamorous behind the scenes of theatre (regardless of how familiar they are with the behind the scenes theatre world). Think of The Play That Goes Wrong but this is on the audition process (from auditions, to callbacks, to the performance). The show will be structured like so:
Act 1: Audition
What our audience sees: 9 actors audition with monologues.
What goes into this: - 9 actors cast from self-tape submissions, will be paired with a director (each director working with 3 actors). These groups will be the same actors/director that performs in Act 3.
Act 2: Callbacks
What our audience sees: those called to callbacks get paired into groups to read sides from a script.
What goes into this: Actors will be pre-cast into 4 groups, and will perform a side from an array of plays produced in Lightbulb's 2022 season.
Act 3: The Performance
What our audience sees: Each performance of "The Process" will culminate in a performance of a 10 minute play, with a new cast for every performance.
What goes into this: Each of the three groups from Act 1's trios will perform a run of "Leading Players" by Scott Carter Cooper.
Currently we are providing an initial $30 stipend, with a 10% profit share of ticket sales to all participating artists. We will be requiring participating artists to be fully vaccinated.
Actors will work with their individual director to schedule "breakout" rehearsals for their monologues to be performed in Act 1: The Audition and their group performance of Leading Players by Scott Carter Cooper.
Rehearsals for Act 2: The Callback will be scheduled in accordance with performer and the director for Act 2's availability.
