Description:
The Conspirators are looking for actors and physical theatre performers to join us in an upcoming FREE Neo-Commedia (or, "The Style") workshop series! Get a taste of what it's like to work in our performance style, and DARE TO BE STUPID!
What is "The Style"? It's an original performance style initially developed by Los Angeles stalwarts The Actors' Gang and Chicago's own New Crime Productions. Neo Commedia combines the basics of classic Commedia dell'Arte with intense emotional states and influences from Kabuki, Kathakali, Bugs Bunny, and a high-energy punk-rock aesthetic that a critic once called "a coke-fueled clown nightmare." For reference, check out our website!
Workshops will be through the month of May, and will occur twice-weekly over 3 weeks (see below for the specific dates). Not only will you gain experience and a new skill set from our workshops, but all participants will be eligible to partake in casting for our upcoming Fall production! Since this is a niche performance style, no prior experience in Commedia Dell-Arte, improv, or other forms we noted above is necessary. We'll be with you every step of the way to show you how it's done! BIPOC and LGBTQ+ performers are highly encouraged to take part.
WORKSHOP DATES
Mondays and Wednesdays, May 8, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24
The Charnel House, 3421 W. Fullerton Ave., Chicago
Want to join in, but can't make all the dates? We might be able to squeeze you in! Let us know in your how many days you would be able to take part. The more you're there, the better, but we may accommodate if there is available room and if you're a good fit for the workshops.
