City Lit Theater Company is holding auditions for Night of the Hunter.
A serial killer poses as a preacher to prey on widows in rural depression-era West Virginia. Two small children with something he wants try to escape as he stalks them to their place of refuge. Actors will portray both children and adults in this adaptation of Davis Grubb's bestselling 1953 novel.

PREACHER - Charismatic con man, given to lie, steal, cheat, and murder. His charm seduces everyone, and his preaching disarms and discourages all doubt that he may have nefarious ulterior motives.
JOHN - A nine-year-old with the weight of a secret that puts his and his sister's lives at risk. He has an alert sense of the danger, but is unable to convince most of those around him. Primary caretaker of his little sister.
BIRDIE - The town "character," he lives at the river's edge and survives on fish he can catch and whiskey. His senses are dulled, but he is capable of listening and caring.
RUBY - Young and naïve teenager, she dreams of movies and romance. She has a good heart and can be responsible for the care of younger children, but has no sense of how evil the world can be.
WILLA - Young mother of small children, the loss of her husband has left her emotionally and physically vulnerable. Well-loved in the community, she relies on other opinions more than her own.
BEN - Young father of two, with an impulsive nature that lead to a terrible mistake. He wants to be the protector and provide of his family. He is rendered unable to protect, and so tries to provide.
MIZ CUNNINGHAM - Ordinary neighbor who is kind, but over-curious and insensitive.
Pay: $100 rehearsal stipend, plus $20 per performance (23 performances); total compensation $560.
