Description:
Improv Playhouse is seeking a playwright for its Fall/Winter touring adaptation of beloved classic, The Little Prince.
"Revisit the whimsical, imaginative tale of a Prince from Outer Space, an Aviator stranded in a desert, and their emotional and everlasting bond. A beautifully theatrical exploration of love, loss, empathy, memory, and self-fulfillment, this story reminds us that, though there are many things that adults can teach children, there are quite a few more things that children may teach adults. So... which do you see: the Hat or the Elephant Eaten by a Snake?"
Now, it's your opportunity to tell us what YOU see in this timeless adventure, before it blasts off to schools, libraries, and theatres throughout the Chicagoland area!
GUIDELINES
Due to the touring nature of this production, we often operate with a compact cast (4-5 actor maximum) and compact set. That being said, we're seeking a playwright who's adept at doubling roles and conjuring magic out of thin air - a love of physical theatre, toy theatre, and puppetry is encouraged, but not required! However, a love of creating works for kiddos IS required, with our target audience falling around 2nd-6th grade.
PAY RATE
As our playwright, you will receive a $200 stipend for services rendered.
PERFORMANCE/REHEARSAL LOCATIONS
Touring performances will take place across Chicagoland. Rehearsals will take place at Otherworld Theatre (Chicago, IL).

With room for flexible scheduling throughout the development process, the only structural checkpoints we require are a first draft by August 1st (2023), and a second draft by start of rehearsals in the beginning of September (2023). Opportunities to be present in the rehearsal room for any last-minute tweaks will be provided, though aren't mandatory. Script questions or revision requests may be sent during the rehearsal period until a week prior to opening (October, 2023).
