Description:
Blank Theatre Company is seeking actors to submit for their production of Promises, Promises with book by Neil Simon, music by Burt Bacharach and lyrics by Hal David. This production will be Directed by Blank Theatre's co-artistic director Danny Kapinos with music direction by Aaron Kaplan and choreography by Lauryn Schmelzer.
Auditions by appointment will be held Sunday, August 6th from 4:00-9:00pm and Monday, August 7th from 6:00-10:00pm at The Edge Off-Broadway. The space is located at 1133 W Catalpa Ave, Chicago, IL 60640.
Callbacks will be held by individual appointment on Sunday, August 13th from 4:00-10:00pm and Monday, August 14th from 6:00-10:00pm at The Edge Theatre (Main Building), 5451 N Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640.
This production will be performed at Invictus Theatre, 1106 W. Thorndale. There is a $300 stipend for this production. This production is Jeff Eligible. Please note: An MRE will be included on this contract. We will have NO 10 out of 12s during this rehearsal process.
SEEKING:
CHUCK BAXTER (He/Him; Any Ethnicity; 20s-30s) A young accountant with ambitions to climb the corporate ladder but who struggles to be noticed by his superiors. Often the smartest person in the room, he struggles to reconcile his moral compass with the corrupt and transactional world he finds himself in.
FRAN KUBELIK (She/Her; Any Ethnicity; Early 20s-30s) A waitress in the Employees' Cafeteria. Witty and sarcastic but underestimated by most people around her. Struggles to treat herself with the respect and dignity that she easily gives to everyone else in her life.
J.D. SHELDRAKE (He/Him; Any Ethnicity; 30s-50s) The boss. Seems to have everything but struggles to fill the empty feeling that remains in his life. Frequently unaware of how his words and actions that make sense to him come off as abrasive or unkind to others.
MARGIE MACDOUGALL (She/Her; Any Ethnicity; 20s-40s) Lonely and possibly widowed, Margie is done waiting around and is extremely eager to find a new sexual partner.
DR. DREYFUSS (He/Him; Any Ethnicity; 40s-60s) Chuck's older neighbor, very outspoken and quick to crack a joke, but deeply caring and willing to reach out to those in need.
PEGGY OLSON (She/Her; Any Ethnicity; Late 20s-30s) Mr. Sheldrake's secretary and former lover. She's seen it all before and is starting to realize her ability and responsibility to protect other women in the workplace.
MR. DOBITCH, MR. KIRKEBY, MR. EICHELBERGER, MR. VANDERHOF (He/Him; Any Ethnicity; 20s-40s) Executives at the company, sexually frustrated and morally compromised, rope Chuck into a scheme to accommodate their extramarital affairs. All 4 executives vary in age. May also double in other small roles.
MISS DELLA HOYA, MISS WONG, MISS POLANSKY (She/Her; Miss Wong - Asian American; Miss Della Hoya & Miss Polansky - Any Ethnicity; Early 20s-30s) Secretaries at the company. Strong dancers, also the "pit singers" providing extensive backup vocals throughout the entire score. May also double in other small roles.
This production will utilize both internal and external understudies for all roles.
Most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the above character descriptions. However limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be inclusive as possible, and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they are most interested in being seen for. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.

Performances Thursday-Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3:00pm. Two Saturday Matinees on 12/23/23 and 12/30/23 at 2:00pm. One Monday performance at 7:30pm on 12/18/23.
Please prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show. Please bring your book in case the production team wishes to hear more.
