Description:
The Goat Song Revel: A one-person Greek chorus named Doris shows up at the biblical Job's house and lets him know that her arrival most likely means that they're in a Greek drama, but whether it's a tragedy or comedy isn't clear. And since this is a Greek drama, Dionysus also stops by. To complicate matters, God and Satan meet at Job's house for their periodic cribbage game, where Satan announces that he wants to play a new game, one he made up called "Job." Lord Byron once said, "All tragedies are finished by a death; all comedies are ended by a marriage." Dionysus realizes that they're heading for a tragedy unless he can create a second act that ends with a marriage. When he finally figures out exactly what's going on, he begins his plan to turn this tragedy into a comedy. The result is a playfully skewed look at the intersection of theatre and religion.

Job (M) 30-40: Job is living his best life when all of a sudden his life gets turned upside down when Doris shows up at his home informing him that he is in a play. As calamity after calamity befalls Job he struggles to persevere. He is personable, witty, and easy to root for.
Doris (F) 24-40: Doris is a one women Greek Chorus. She arrives at Jobs house unexpectedly and informs him that he is in a play. Doris operates as Job's guide on his journey and helps him to traverse his calamities all the while starting to feel for Job. Dionysus (M) 30-50: Dionysus is very narcissistic and expects to be worshiped by all, especially theater goers. His main focus is maintaining the integrity of the theater, and wanting to avoid a dreaded farce. For Dionysus think nepotism at its finest. Has he really earned the title of deity? He's smug, full of himself, but also dutiful.
God (M/F) 45+: THE deity and God knows it. God is content being content and existing. God passes the time by playing games with Satan. They're typical game of choice is cribbage, except today Satan has a new game he wants to play. God knows how righteous and just Job is and struggles with agreeing to play the game. God is so calm and relaxed that God is almost aloof. God does get serious and pull rank on occasion, but overall very light hearted.
Satan (M/F) 35-45: Handsome/Beautiful, Debonair/Alluring. Satan was God's most perfect creation prior to man. Satan has that aura about them. They are the most beautiful morning star. They are also resentful not only toward God, but man. Especially Job. Satan's whole motive is to get Job to break and curse God. If he is successful then God would have failed with his creation of man. Satan is sarcastic, resentful of God, devious and calculating. Additionally Satan must be oozing charisma to the point where some individuals may choose to root for him.
Messenger (M/F) 25+: The messenger offers matter of fact narrative of the proceedings of Job's trial. The messenger shows little to know bias. His matter of factness and can come off cold or humorous depending on the message they are delivery.
