The Kirkwood Players is holding auditions for one of Oscar Wilde's most renowned works, "The Importance of Being Earnest." A story of two friends who create fictional personas to pursue their romantic interest, hilarity ensues. "The Importance of Being Earnest" remains a beloved and enduring classic due to its timeless humor, astute social commentary, and the playwright's masterful command of language and wit.
Roles
Jack Worthing (M) - late 20's+ - Earnest in London and Jack in the country, he's a seemingly trustworthy man leading a double life
Algernon Moncrieff (M) - 20's-30's - A good friend of Jack's who is similarly venturous, honing his own method for galavanting
Gwendolen Fairfax (F) - late 20's+ - Utterly pretentious, fashionable, and in love with Jack, whom she knows as Earnest
Cecily Cardew (F) - 18-20's - Jack's ward and obsessed with Jack's fictional brother, whom she knows as Earnest
Lady Bracknell (F) - 40's+ - Algernon's fearsome, snooty, and overbearing aunt and Gwendolen's mother; arguably the most quoted character of the play
Miss Prism (F) - 40's+ - Cecily's uptight governess whose looser side has a romantic interest in Rev. Chasuble
Rev. Canon Chasuble (M) - 40's+ - The vicar of Jack's estate who gets wrapped up in the quest for the name Earnest
Lane (M/F) - Any Age - Algernon's servant and the eyes and ears of Algernon's home
Merriman (M/F) - Any Age - The butler/maid of Jack's house
Auditions
Sunday, August 6th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and Monday, August 7th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Westchester Community Church, 1840 Westchester Blvd, Westchester, IL 60154.
This is an Open Call Audition. There are no reserved timeslots. Actors are welcome to show up at any point within the timeframes provided.
Roles are open to actors of all ages and ethnicities.
A monologue is not required but welcome if you have one prepared. Please come prepared with possible scheduling conflicts.
