Description:
Oil Lamp Theater is seeking submissions for strong Actor/Singers for its productions of The Gift of the Magi by Jon Jory. Susan Gorman will direct and Jake Hartge will music direct. The show will run from November 16-December 30. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm (November 16-December 9) and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at 7:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm (December 10-December 30). There are no performances on Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve.
Synopsis: When a strange twist of fate leads young couple Jim and Della to find the perfect Christmas gifts for one another at an unexpected cost, Jim and Della learn the true meaning of the holiday. Classic Christmas carols punctuate this sweet and joyful retelling of the O. Henry story.
Casting Process:
Auditions by appointment only will be Monday, August 14 from 7:00-10:00pm.
Callbacks are by invitation only and will be held on Sunday, August 20 beginning at 7:00pm. Both Auditions and Callbacks will be held at the theater which is located at 1723 Glenview Road, Glenview, IL.
Character Type/Restrictions: Specifically seeking a diverse cast of strong actor/singers:
JIM - 20s-early 30s-romantic, hardworking, trustworthy, a gentleman, could be a non-singer
DELLA - 20s-early 30- romantic, intelligent, direct, could be a non-singer
ENSEMBLE - Seeking 4 strong singer/actors to play all of the other roles including a madrigal quartet
Pay Rate: $1,000 main cast | $500 understudies
Rehearsals: Begin Tuesday, September 26 and are typically held from 7:00-10:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings and 10:00am-1:00pm on Saturdays until tech which begins on Saturday, November 11.
