Description:
Improv Playhouse is seeking actors for its Fall/Winter touring production of The Little Prince, written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, newly adapted by Ruby Gibson, and directed by Ellie Levine.
"Revisit the whimsical, imaginative tale of a Prince from Outer Space, an Aviator stranded in a desert, and their emotional and everlasting bond. A beautifully theatrical exploration of love, loss, empathy, memory, and self-fulfillment, this story reminds us that, though there are many things that adults can teach children, there are quite a few more things that children may teach adults. So... what do YOU see: a Hat or an Elephant Eaten by a Snake?"
Note from the Playwright:
We are interested in exploring the Value of Care - care for our Little Planets, care for our Bodies, care for our Big Planet Earth. And beyond this, in the expanse of space, when you look at the stars: THAT is also care. Once you love someone you see the whole world through that lens of love.
This is also an inherently artistic and participatory story - the Aviator is instructed to draw things alongside the Prince. Art is imperfect! Erase things! Redraw things! This is the energy we are hoping to bring to this story.
CASTING
Our touring shows feature casts that are small but mighty - this production will feature a lot of character doubling, ensemble work, and transformation from people, to planets, to magical creatures. A few of these characters include:
The Prince - Curious, whimsical, a child
The Men on Planets - Adults. Calculating. Foolish. A King, a Businessman, a Lamplighter.
The Rose
The Fox
The Snake
Improv Playhouse is committed to diversity and equal employment opportunities designed to promote a positive model of inclusion. As such, Improv Playhouse encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, as well as performers with disabilities, to submit.
