Black Cat Theatre Company is proud to announce auditions for our debut staged reading of The Jacaranda Tree by Cori Lang, directed by Savannah Selbach and produced by Jared Sheldon and Cee Scallen.
The Jacaranda Tree explores themes of life, love, longing, loss, and the unshakable feeling that maybe change is not only possible but unavoidable through the vehicle of poetic language and Greek mythology.
Characters:
HADES (He/They): God of the underworld, generally gloomy, masc-presenting.
THANATOS (Open Gender): God of Death, fiery passion hidden by a ghostly exterior.
HERMES: (Open Gender): Messenger God, cheerfully stark contrast to the Gods from the Underworld, health does of frat bro energy.
EURYDICE: (Femme) This role has been precast
CHARON: (Open Gender) Ferryman to the Underworld, has an ancient aura.
ORPHEUS: (Open Gender) Champion of Apollo, has mastered the art of the lyre and voice, recently married to Eurydice.
As a new company on the Chicago theatre scene, Black Cat is focusing its efforts on sustainability, transparency, and education. Self tapes due by Monday, October 2nd
Rehearsals: 2-4 rehearsals will be scheduled based on the availability of the cast
Dress Rehearsal: November 8th
Performance: November 9th.
