Description:
Parker Players Theater Company is seeking three female actors for its upcoming production of Art by Yasmina Reza and directed by Dominic Green.
Three friends. One of whom has just purchased a piece of 'modern art' - "a canvas, about 5 foot by 4: white. The background is white and if you screw up your eyes, you can make out some fine, white diagonal lines." This purchase tests the relationship between the friends, questioning what is 'art', what has 'value', what is important?
Those themes explore the nature of relationships, and of status and control within them; of age, and the evolving stages of life; of friendships and empathy, of understanding vs ignorance, and of compassion vs cruelty...
Reza wrote the characters as men, and the particular nature of male relationships was an important, original theme. In order to explore the broader themes with a fresh, challenging and relevant intent, we are casting this production with women.
Invited Callbacks will be held December 7, 2024 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
Auditions, Callbacks and Performances will be held at:

Character Descriptions:
Margot,
40's
Intellectual, an aeronautical engineer, Margot is deeply offended by her friend Sabine's very expensive purchase of a piece of modern "art", which Margot labels as "shit". Some may accuse her of being pompous, superior, and smug. She feels abandoned by her friend, prompting feelings and questions that force her to confront herself, and her relationship.
Sabine,
40's
Earnest, a dermatologist, and a divorcee. She recently spent more money than she has ever spent in her life, on a piece of modern art - an almost-plain white canvas - which she is excited to share with her close friend, Margot. Margot's dismissal of the art ("shit") forces Sabine on the defensive, challenging her to advocate for herself, and her place in their relationship.
Yvette,
40's
Sensitive, anxious, conflict-averse, Yvette recently left a career in textiles to start a new job in sales at her fiance's uncles' stationary business. Against her will, she is drawn into the conflict between her two friends, at times filling the role of punch-bag for their domineering, a joke for their amusement, and a fulcrum for their sparring. On top of this she is planning her wedding, and has her own concerns to worry about.
