Worries if Not, a new Chicago artistic collective, announces auditions for a staged reading of Canadian Boyfriend by Sam Springhorn, directed by Sydney Johnson.

The year is 2012: After making up a fake boyfriend to impress cool-girl Lila, Caroline approaches her best friend Abby with a completely brilliant and not at all destined-for-disaster catfishing plan. But as "Michael" and Lila start hitting it off via text message, the girls' relationships get increasingly complicated, especially when Michael starts appearing to Abby and giving his input. A comedy about the trials of middle school friendships and gay crushes.

CASTING BREAKDOWN:
All roles are open to actors of any ethnicity and age.
*We are interested in seeing women, non-binary, and/or trans actors audition for the role of Michael.

Abby: Eighth grade girl. A self-identified nerd who thinks her unpopularity is actually a sign that she's more mature than her peers. Has been best friends with Caroline for as long as she can remember. Queer, but hasn't consciously acknowledged that yet.

Caroline: Eighth grade girl. A goody-two-shoes who attends church twice a week. Has been best friends with Abby for as long as she can remember. Has started becoming friends with Lila over the last few months.

Lila: Eighth grade girl. In the popular crowd at school, but doesn't feel like she has any truly close friends. Has been dating Ryan for a few months.

Michael: Eighth grade boy* . The manifestation of the perfect boyfriend that Caroline and Abby have co-created. Appears to Abby throughout the play to tell her the truths she knows but doesn't want to accept. *We are interested in seeing women, non-binary and/or trans actors audition for this role.

Ryan: Eighth grade boy. In the popular crowd and currently dating Lila. (Only in one scene.)

Tommy: Eighth grade boy. In the popular crowd and a good friend of Ryan's. (Only in one scene.)

PAY: $75 stipend for Abby, Caroline, Lila, and Michael. $50 stipend for Ryan and Tommy.
