Setting is a grocery store in Millburg, a small town in southern Wisconsin. The town has suffered all the calamities and indignities that Midwest small towns have endured the past 50 years. The story centers around the grocery store owner's conflicting desires to bail out of a losing proposition but also to continue to run the store as an anchor for his struggling community.
Auditions will be held via Zoom the evenings of Jan. 10, 11, 2024, 7-10 p.m. for the following roles:
Female identifying roles:
Cindy Crayton - mid to late 40s; Little League coach in Millburg. Widowed mom.
Kim Grand - 49. Rick's ex-wife. She moved with Rick from Chicago to Millburg.
Male Identifying roles:
Charles Woodman - 60s - Well-to-do suburban Chicago businessman who owns property near Millburg.
Robert Hodgson - 25; worked for Rick until he was fired for not showing up.
Rick Erickson - 49, approaching 50; owner of Grand Family Foods; soon to be ex-mayor of Millburg.
Either male or femaile-identifying:
Gene/Jean Carleton - 50-60ss; small-time attorney, life-long resident of Millburg.
Callbacks will be held in person in Evanston on Saturday, Jan. 13, beginning at 9 a.m.
Show will rehearse and be staged at Northminster Presbyterian Church Logan Hall Theater, 2515 Central Park Avenue, Evanston. Only apply if you have your own transportation to and from rehearsals, theater is not reachable via public transit during many rehearsal times.
Rehearsals begin Feb. 15 and normally will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each week with opening night April 20. Show will run for four performances April 20, 21, 27,28, Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees.
This is a large cast play with most characters on stage for most scenes. We're looking for actors capable of handling large chunks on dialogue and working closely with other cast members to ensure everyone is thoroughly prepared for every scene and everyone understand this is a team effort.
Pay: $500 stipend
