[CHARACTERS] *
[BEATRIX ARDEN] (open gender/open ethnicity, late teens):
Our Skyflint. She knows she can control lightning but refuses to use this ability. Especially after she watched her mother die in a thunderstorm when she was just a little girl. She jumps on the chance to join the Good Ship Piglet as the Oddbody, the lowest-ranking member of the crew, just for a chance to leave the ground behind. And to outrun anybody from the Magistrate that might be hunting for a Skyflint like her. Luckily, this position allows her to form a new family as she peels potatoes with Ruperta, repairs electrical couplings with Enoch, takes stock of medical supplies with Dokky, and learns sword fighting from Lindsay. She will form more than a passing affection for multiple members of the crew.
[MADAME GEORGETTE] (open gender/open ethnicity, 60s):
The leader and financier of the expedition. Recently widowed by Wharton, hence the need for a change of pace. She's always been a dreamer, wondering what things looked like in the atmosphere, stratosphere, and above-the-sphere itself. Ever optimistic, she always strives to see the best in people, even when they might not deserve it. She is secretly a woman consumed by grief, to the point that she's willing to risk the entire crew's safety to fly all the way up to heaven.
[LINDSAY PALMERSTON] (open gender/open ethnicity, early to mid 30s):
Madame Georgette's First Mate, second in command, and longtime personal secretary. He often takes on a tempered, level-headed approach to all of Madame Georgette's whims. He's an excellent swordsman and loves to train others to be able to match his enthusiasm. Lindsay immediately takes Trix under his wing, which makes his betrayal later all the more painful.
[DR. IVES ENOCH- "DOKKY"] (open gender/open ethnicity, late 20s to early 30s):
A medical doctor who loves to draw incredibly accurate drawings of strange insects and other little wiggly creatures for their collection. They can't wait to see what's living up in the cloud cover. Think Dr. Stephen Maturin in Master and Commander. Sometimes their love of natural wonders puts them in mortal danger. Especially when it comes to the wonder of the Sky Squid. Married to Beryl.
[BERYL TRAHERN] (open gender/open ethnicity, Mid to late 30s):
That blue-collar person who refuses to let anything stay broken. Or fixed. "Fixed" is just a pitstop on the road to innovation. Has a TBD disability and would be played by an actor with a similar disability. Whatever accessibility aids they use, they designed them themself. also made the Good Ship Piglet a reality and could fix it in their sleep... provided it wasn't sabotaged by someone else onboard. Married to Dokky.
[RUPERTA ZULEIKA] (open gender/open ethnicity, late teens to early 20s):
Thanks to being Madame Georgette's cousin, once or twice removed, Ruperta was able to cut a deal with the Magistrate. She either became the Piglet's cook or spent seven years in prison for fencing stolen goods. Now she's trying her best to invent three meals a day for the entire crew and making her second chance worth it.
