Synopsis: To avoid prison, a charming, rebellious rogue named McMurphy contrives to serve his short sentence in an airy mental institution instead. He immediately clashes with the authoritarian head nurse, a fierce martinet named Nurse Ratched, and struggles to lead the other patients out of their introversion. A modern classic of how an unstoppable force meets an immovable object and fights for control and freedom.
RANDALL P McMURPHY (M, 30's-40's)
A loud, devilish, gambler. A con man, and a back room brawler. Exudes personality and charisma. He was sentenced to six months at a prison work farm, and fakes a diagnosis as a psychopath to spend his sentence in the psych ward.
NURSE RATCHED (F, 40's-50's)
The head of the hospital ward. She masks her humanity and femininity behind a stiff, mechanical, patronizing façade. She controls her patients by calculating, and pinpointing each of their weaknesses for their own benefit.
CHIEF BROMDEN (M, 30's-60's)
The huge, bull‐muscled, half‐breed son of an Indian Chief. He has been in the hospital for more than ten years, longer than any other patient in the ward. He fakes being deaf and mute as a means of self-preservation. Seeking an actor of tall stature for the role.
BILLY BIBBIT (M, 20's-30's)
A shy and childish man with a bad stutter. He seems younger than he is. Dominated by his mother and has a history of attempts against his own life.
DALE HARDING (M, 30's-50's)
College‐educated with a sharp mind and tongue. An effeminate, but terribly repressed man whose shame dictates his life decisions. He is President of the Patients' Council.
CHARLIE CHESWICK (M, 40's-60's)
Eager and quick to argue or fight, and even quicker to back down in the face of confrontation. Loyal, but incredibly high strung and skittish.
MARTINI (M, 30's-60's)
An odd Italian man who suffers hallucinations. Lives in a delusional ignorant bliss.
AIDE WARREN and AIDE WILLIAMS (M, 30's to 60's)
The Hospital Aides, cruel and demeaning, who act as Nurse Ratched's enforcers. Seeking actors of large stature for these roles.
DR. SPIVEY (M, 50's-70's)
The administrator and psychiatrist of the mental institution. A clueless man who defers to Nurse Ratched. A probable opioid addict.
NURSE FLINN / SANDY (F, 20's-30's)
Nurse Flinn is a young and naive Catholic nurse who truly believes in doing good and helping the broken. Made fearful and mousey due to Nurse Ratched and harassment from the patients. / Sandy is an escort and friend of Candy's.
