Description:
Nonsense Theatre Company is holding auditions for a staged reading of BLOODSHOT by Elinor T. Vanderburg. This reading will incorporate lights and live sound to bring this supernatural, darkly comic neo-noir to life. Directed by Elliott Puckette.
Character Breakdown:
THE NARRATOR/THE BARTENDER, Black, male, 25-50
The Narrator of RJ Reaver's world and his dark inner self. Sophisticated and confident, but does not yet know his true potential.
RJ REAVER, Black, male, 25-50
The coroner. A good man repressing memories of a horrible tragedy. Carrying the weight of the world on his sleep-deprived shoulders and about to collapse.
BAILEY SUNSHINE, Black, female, timeless
Host of the radio show Sunshine After Dark. A warm voice in the dark, talking listeners through the night. When she's off the clock, she'd like to dance with a handsome stranger.
DETECTIVE BELLA MARJORIE, Black, female, 25-50
Reaver's friend and co-worker. Trying to be there for him, but afraid to get too attached.
VICTOR PISTACHIO/JULIANNE MAYERSON/DR. CONEY, White, any gender, forever young
Privileged beyond belief. Only just starting to understand what it means to care for someone.
JAMES/THE NAKED MAN/RON ROLAND, THE MATTRESS BARON/RON ROLAND THE SECOND, male, 25-45
A man on the brink of insanity or death.
Pay: $50 stipend with the possibility of a larger stipend dependent on earnings
Please submit your headshot, resume, and conflicts for March 11-23, along with a video 60-second contemporary monologue through the Google Form. If you do not have a pre-recorded monologue, please record yourself reading a side from the link in Google Form and use that instead. Deadline is Thursday, February 15.
If a callback is necessary, the director may ask to meet virtually or for a second video in order to hear you read a specific side.
Note: Please do not worry too much about finding a plain backdrop or getting a perfect slate. We would rather see your imperfect self-tape than not get to see you at all. This is a staged reading and memorization is not required for the audition or the production.
