Description:
The Palos Village Players will be holding auditions for their spring play, The Hollow, by Agatha Christie.
Auditions will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church 13350 S. LaGrange Rd. Orland Park, IL
Synopsis:
An unhappy game of follow the leader explodes into murder one weekend, at The Hollow, home of Sir Henry and Lady Angkatell. Dr. Christow is at the center of the trouble when his mistress Henrietta, ex-mistress Veronica, and wife Gerda simultaneously arrive at The Hollow. Also visiting are Edward, who is in love with Henrietta, and Midge who is in love with Edward.
Character Description:
Lady Angkatell:(Lucy) ('60s) Sir Henry's spouse. She is a woman who speaks whatever comes to mind, a very distractable and judgmental mind without filters. She seems totally absent-minded, but her motives and reasoning are deep.
Sir Henry Angkatell: ('60s) The retired diplomat and consummate country gentleman host. He is unflappable, even when his guests break with decorum. He has not lost his diplomatic touch.
Henrietta Angkatell: ('30s) A handsome artist. A cousin of Lady Angkatell and a (not really) secret mistress of Dr. John Cristow. She has won acclaim for her sculptures.
Midge Harvey: ('30s) A second cousin to Lady Angkatell, she is "small" neatly-dressed, but obviously badly off. She works in a dress shop, and is admired for being warm-hearted and down to earth.
Edward Angkatell: (35-45) Another first cousin and the sole owner of Ainswick-the old family manor he's inherited by traditional law. Others pine for the happy days there and long to return. He has a crush on Henrietta.
Dr. John Cristow: (38) Handsome, dynamic, but also egotistical. A womanizer with at least two paramours in the house. He is demeaning to his wife and indifferent to his children.
Gerda Cristow: ('30s) John's devoted wife. Thought to be dim-witted, and in general pitied. She is loyal to her mate despite his ill-treatment.
Veronica Craye: (Late '30s) A British actress who has moved on to Hollywood stardom. She was romantically involved with John back in his single days, and still carries a torch for him.
Inspector Colquhoun: (40+) Thoughtful, quiet Scotland Yard man, with a sense of humor and a sympathetic demeanor.
Detective Sergeant Penny: Plainclothes assistant to Colquhoun. Never without his notebook.
Doris (the maid) ('20s-'30s) "Looks" half-witted-terrified of Gudgeon
Gudgeon: (50+) Able, all-knowing butler. He runs The Hollow.
