Description:
Lifeline Theatre is seeking understudies for their upcoming production of Native Son by Nambi E. Kelly, directed by Ilesa Duncan. This is a non-union production.
We are currently seeking understudies to cover the following tracks: BIGGER (20s-30s, Male Identifying, Black)
-African-American man of 20, ambition to progress beyond the abject poverty he's grown up in.
HANNAH and BESSIE (20s-30s, Female Identifying, Black)
-Hannah: African-American female, early 40s, tough, broken, the edge of anger, plays a variety of roles.
-Bessie: African-American female to play teens to mid-20s, alcoholic, also plays VERA, LESLIE (offstage voice), and others.
JAN and BRITTEN (30s, Male Identifying, Caucasian)
-Jan: (pronounced JAN as in January) Caucasian male, 30s, well-intentioned with an edge, also plays STORE OWNER, POLICE #2, and others.
-Britten: Caucasian male, 40s-50s, main investigator, thrives on mischief; also plays NEWSREEL V.O., MOVIE V.O., POLICE #1, and others.
Understudy Pay:
$485 rehearsal stipend, $30 per show (when you go on)
First Rehearsal: March 24th, 2024
Rehearsals will be 4-5 days a week, weekday evening and weekend afternoons, depending on actor and production team schedules and availability
Tech: May 2nd-18th, 2024
Previews: May 10th-19th, 2024
Opening Night: Monday, May 20th, 2024 @ 7pm
Performances will be Friday evenings, Saturday afternoon and evenings, and Sunday afternoons
Closing: Sun, June 30th, 2024
Max Extension: Sun, July 14th, 2024
Understudies are not required to attend all rehearsals, but are encouraged to attend as often as possible. Understudies must be present for all of tech, and be available for all performances during the run.
