Description:
Seeking the following roles for When Calls the Heart!!
Original musical written by Christy Stutzman
Jack Delaney (20-30):
Baritone/Tenor
5'11" or taller
Although his taller stature, strong physique and confident stride command attention in any room, Jack is the consummate gentleman with a true heart to serve others. He is polite, patient, intelligent and fun. His smile is quick and winsome but his gestures and mannerisms reveal that his military training is deeply engrained. He is quick witted, thoughtful, disciplined, measured in his reactions and can be a bit stubborn about certain things. He is amused and confused by Elizabeth at first. He has not courted many ladies although there have been many who have secretly swooned over him. When he is with Elizabeth, he is a bit awkward and tends to put his foot in his mouth. He admired his father who served the Mounties and he dearly loved his mother who was a teacher and taught him to appreciate literature and the arts. He has an adventurous nature and loves exploring the rugged terrain of the western front. He loves a physical challenge and enjoys hiking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing and working with his hands. His dream is to help blaze a new trail and open up new territories while being the steady hand of the law and ensuring the safety of new settlers. He loves his job and is not necessarily looking to settle down. He is quite surprised when he finds himself falling in love with Elizabeth and is faced with the daunting possibility that he might have to resign from the Mounties in order to be with her. His romantic heart wins out in the end, as he realizes that he has found a once in a lifetime love.
Mr. Higgins (any age):
(Irish dialect required/dance or movement ability a must)
As the newly appointed School Superintendent for all of Alberta, Mr. Higgins believes he has reached the pinnacle of success in his career and is seen as somewhat of a local celebrity by Mrs. Gray and her "ladies club" of women friends; all of whom he schmoozes regularly with tall tales of his accomplishments. He is extremely proud of his work to bring education and civilized society to the poor, uneducated inhabitants of the western territory and he lets everyone know just how valuable he is to the community. Proud, obnoxious, conceited and vain, he has not found a "suitable" wife because he has not found any woman "worthy" of him. Elizabeth Thatcher is an educated, beautiful and well-dressed woman from back East who checks all the boxes he requires, so he does not waste any time letting her know that she is the lucky girl "qualified" to be his wife.
Jonathan Thatcher (25-35):
Eldest son of Mrs. Thatcher and her first husband, Jonathan was adopted by Ephraim Thatcher at a young age, when his mother remarried after the sudden death of her first husband. A few years later he was the older brother to two younger sisters, Elizabeth and Julie. Although raised in a well-to-do family, he learned a strong work ethic from his adopted father, who provided the best education for him and helped him get his start in business after graduation. He is very close with his mother, to the point of being her favorite, and is a very gifted writer. He writes to his mother at least twice a week and kept in touch with his younger sisters as well. After moving out west to build his business, he became a leader in the community and soon fell in love with a kind and caring lady named Mary. Because of the distance, his younger sisters have never met his wife or daughter. He is very proud of Elizabeth and her teaching career, and has used his influence to recommend her for a position in Calgary. He is thrilled at the thought of having a member of his family living so close.
