Description:
Now entering its thirteenth season touring Shakespeare in the Park throughout the Midwest, Stone Soup Shakespeare is auditioning for their 2024 regional tour of Macbeth, directed by Sara BenBella.
As Stone Soup Shakespeare performs in diverse communities, we would like our cast to mirror the beauty of the communities in which we perform. Therefore, we encourage actors of all backgrounds to audition and are seeking an inclusive cast featuring all body types, abilities, gender identities, and ethnicities. We are especially looking for performers who sing and/or play instruments.
We are looking to cast 4 ensemble actors and 2 swing/understudy actors (1 ensemble and 1 swing/understudy have already been cast).
WHAT:
A five-person ensemble production of Shakespeare's Macbeth, that will include music, movement, and shadow puppetry. The ensemble will cover all of the characters within Macbeth (there will be doubling and part-sharing).
WHEN:
In-Person Auditions: April 6, 2PM-5PM
Virtual Submissions through: April 6, 5PM
The tour will rehearse in a residency in Southern Illinois from June 23-July 7, with public sharings on July 5 and July 6. Re-rehearsals will be scheduled in Chicago between August 26-September 3 based on ensemble availability.
The tour itself will take place from Sep 3-Oct 8 (a combination of Chicago area locations, as well as areas throughout Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Wisconsin).
COMPENSATION:
Ensemble Stipend: $1,000
Room and board will be provided to performers when rehearsing/performing out-of-town. This consists largely of homestays and group meals, with stays at hotel/AirBnB locations and some specific meal stipends as is needed. Transportation will also be arranged for requisite travel to all out-of-town locations.
AUDITION DETAILS:
ALL: Please prepare
A monologue (Shakespeare or other - do what you want - have fun)
A song (if you sing, if you play, if you do both)
Anything else you want to share (a dance move, a quirky character voice, your ability to solve a rubik's cube blindfolded, bird calls - bring it!)
In-person Auditions: we will send some sides to be familiar with; the in-person audition will include some slight ensemble work with and without text; please include any time preferences you have for the audition
In-person auditions will be held at FAME Center (1319 S State Street, near Roosevelt L station).
Virtual Auditions: when you submit your material, if you could share (either in your self-tape or written out)
-favorite recent piece of theater you've seen and why
-any crafts you enjoy and/or are skilled at, and if you feel comfortable teaching them (it's a witch thing)
-any stage combat experience (this Macbeth will be a "fight light" production, but good to know what your experience has been)
-any conflicts you have with the schedule
