Description:
Elsinore is seeking an actor for their fall 2024 production of Hand to God by Robert Askins, directed by JJ Gatesman. The production is being staged at First United Methodist Church, 216 E Highland Ave,, Elgin, IL. There is a $100 stipend.
Synopsis:
After the death of his father, meek Jason finds an outlet for his anxiety at the Christian Puppet Ministry, in the devoutly religious, relatively quiet small town of Cypress, Texas. Jason's complicated relationships with the town pastor, the school bully, the girl next door and-most especially-his mother are thrown into upheaval when Jason's puppet, Tyrone, takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own. Hand To God explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind us.
Auditions will be held May 22 by appointment only at the Elgin First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland, Elgin IL.
Character Description:
TIMMY: Male presenting, played by an actor who looks young but is in no way the teenager that he is intended to be. Troubled, typical bad boy attitude, over-speaks his mind without fear of consequences. Alpha male who thinks he is in love with Margery and willing to do anything for her. Must be willing to get physical with the actress who plays Margery: kissing, biting, touching, and other stage violence.
All other roles have been cast.
First read-through late July (date TBD). Regular rehearsals will commence the week of August 4th.
Rehearsals: 3-4 times/week. Days to be determined once role is cast.
Tech: 9/22-9/26
Opening Night: 9/27
Run: 9/27-10/13 (Friday & Saturday evenings 8 PM, Sunday 3 PM matinee)
Auditions will consist of sides from the script. Sides will be provided with your appointment time.
