Project Title | Healing A Fractured World: A portrait of exiled composer Egon Lustgarten |
Description:
Chicago premier of The Lahr von Leïtis Academy and Archive's program 'Healing a Fractured World: A portrait of exiled composer Egon Lustgarten'
Egon Lustgarten (1887-1961), an Austrian composer of Jewish descent, was forced to emigrate to the United States after Hitler's annexation of Austria. This unique experience brings the composer's story to life through a brief lecture, performance of his musical works, narrated personal correspondence and images. Additional details on the program can be found here.
Seeking narrator:
Egon Lustgarten - male-identifying, Austrian composer of Jewish descent. The narrator will read selected diary entries and letters written by Lustgarten when he was between the ages of 50-65. Memorization of the texts is not required. We are seeking a narrator that shares our passion for championing the work of exiled artists and who will give a voice to Lustgarten's own words.
Pay: $150 including rehearsals and up to 2 performances
- Early July: Initial meeting to provide texts to be narrated and additional program details
- 9/22-10/6: 2-3 rehearsals + 1 production logistics meeting. Some rehearsals with the narrator may be conducted virtually. We may meet a few times ahead of this timeframe ad-hoc/as needed.
- 10/7-10/13: Dress rehearsal + 1-2 performances in Chicago (~90 minutes each)
