Description:
The creative team overseeing an upcoming live event at Shedd Aquarium is seeking an excellent lead singer who can also serve as narrator for a short but high-profile performance. The event will take place on the evening of Saturday, September 28. Excellent pay.
The performance will feature 5-6 songs in an upbeat dance/house style as well as live narration in coordination with multimedia, marine mammals, and trainers. The right person for this will be a captivating speaker with a compelling presence, with a stellar pop/rock/contemporary voice. The music is being arranged specifically those hired, so all vocal ranges will be considered.
Due to the large and echoing nature of the performance space, the vast space between singers and musicians, and the need to coordinate with tracks and other media, in-ear monitors will be used. Previous experience working with in-ears and working with simultaneously tracked and live media (such as through Ableton Live) is a plus but not required. Several of our previous performers have worked with in-ears for the first time here.
Must be comfortable performing near water and in close proximity to marine mammals such as dolphins and beluga whales.
Auditions and preliminary rehearsals
-Talent auditions will be held Saturday, August 10, between 4-10pm at Shedd. Some of this will involve singing with other singers and instrumentalists in various combinations, so be prepared to stay for a while.
-If not available for August 10 auditions but otherwise available for the gig, please submit anyway as we will also consider video auditions and/or an additional audition date later in August.
-Materials to prepare will be provided once your audition is confirmed.
Preliminary rehearsals
-A small number of music-and-narration-only rehearsals (probably 2-4) will be scheduled between September 1-26 based on the availability of those hired.
Event week schedule -There will be three early morning rehearsals with the trainers (7-10:30am) so we may rehearse in the Oceanarium without the public present. These will be held on 9/25 and 9/26, with a third one TBA on either 9/22, 23, or 24.
-Dress rehearsal and full runs with animals and trainers: Friday 9/27, 4-10pm.
-Final event tech and performance: Saturday 9/28, 1-9pm (dinner provided).
