Project Title | The Process |
Description:
A satiric, mainly improvised look inside an acting class led by an enigmatic guru. The Process pays tribute to actors -- a special breed of risk-taking humans -- and how they collaborate with an all-powerful (but not necessarily all-knowing) director. The cast will be embedded in the audience. This is a new show being directed by Jay Burlingham and Tom Lawler.
Pay: $100 stipend.
Character breakdowns (any gender, any ethnicity for all)
THE GURU: Older. Charismatic, self-important and insecure. The Guru leads the class through The Process (their own proprietary acting technique based largely on Meisner and improv comedy techniques), dispensing advice and wisdom along the way.
THE TEACHING ASSISTANT: Younger than The Guru. An aspiring director and first among the acting students, The Teaching Assistant is eager to please The Guru.
THE ACTING STUDENTS (7): From acting newbies to seasoned theater veterans, The Acting Students have enrolled in The Process to advance their professional careers.
Rehearsal dates: Wednesdays in September (9/4, 9/11, 9/18, 9/25), 7-9 pm at Green Shirt Studio (4011 N. Ravenswood Ave). Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory.
Performance date: Friday, October 4, 7:00-8:30 pm at The Lincoln Lodge (2040 N. Milwaukee Ave). Call time 6:30pm. Subsequent monthly performances pending feedback from cast and crew.
