Description:
Loose Cannon is taking submissions for our upcoming production of The Maiden's Prayer written by Nicky Silver. Submissions close August 25, 2024.
SHOW SYNOPSIS:
A timely tragicomedy about the fragility of trust and the power of dependency. Following the ill-fated wedding of Cynthia and Taylor, Paul finds himself as the middleman in a web of chaos. Stuck between the ferocity of Cynthia's sister, Libby, his unresolved feelings for Taylor, and his own relationship plight with Andrew, Paul must reach the calm of the storm before it's too late.
STIPEND: $75 (Non-Equity)
ROLES:
PAUL: (He/Him) late twenties to early thirties; marked by his vulnerability, charm, and wit, Paul struggles to navigate relationships old and new. As the middleman, Paul seeks happiness for himself and those who mean the most to him through whatever means necessary. He is passionate, promiscuous, and may or may not use humor as a coping mechanism. He has been friends with Taylor since childhood, and has hidden his romantic feelings for him ever since.
LIBBY: (She/Her) mid-twenties to late twenties; an incredibly strong, though sometimes destructive, individual. She harbors bitterness toward her sister, Cynthia, and is tormented by the memory of her cruel upbringing alongside her. Despite her outward resentment, she is wildly compassionate and loving, and takes her destiny into her own hands. She bears intense, secret feelings for Taylor - Cynthia's husband.
TAYLOR: (He/Him) (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST) late twenties to early thirties; newlywed with Cynthia, with a complicated past involving Libby. His somewhat oblivious nature leads to conflict with unresolved tension in his past, and witnesses how his actions have contributed to the fragility of his relationships.
CYNTHIA: (She/Her) (THIS ROLE HAS BEEN CAST) mid-twenties to late twenties; newlywed with Taylor, and the younger sister to Libby. Her resilience and power are tested when her life is thrown into utter chaos. Battered by grief, betrayal, and denial, Cynthia is forced to question everything she has ever known about love and trust.
ANDREW: (He/Him) early twenties to mid-twenties; while initially coming off as just looking for a place to stay the night, Andrew begins a unique relationship with Paul. Opportunistic and witty, he is responsible for many of the script's comedic moments. Andrew's world view expands as he evolves into a stable and mature version of himself, keeping his youthful and impish nature at heart. The actor cast in this role will also play GEORGE and ART.
